Top 10 countries I can’t wait to visit

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Chinese proverb Tweet
Yours truly, Courageous Wanderer, has so far visited 30 countries of this Earth. The UN states there are 193 countries in the world today, which gives me a coverage of around 16% of the world. When people ask me how many countries I’ve been to, my answer is usually “only 30”. When I ask others the same question, their answers are mostly “already 15, and counting”. In fact, most travel bloggers/vloggers I know have visited less than 40 states. Think my point of view may be in need of revision.
Of the 30 countries I’ve voyaged to, there are between 12 and 15 I want to go back to (depending on the strength of the desire). This post is not about them. We all want to achieve great things in life, don’t we? Well, my great thing consists of stepping onto the soil of every single existing country in the world at least once. Certainly, some will have to wait for a better time, due to unlucky situation they are currently in, but nobody said I’m aiming to do this in the next five years, either.
I’ve decided to put my top 10 on paper. Why? When you write something down, you trick your brain into achieving it. So, without any further ado, let’s count them from the 10th all the way down to the 1st place. (The pictures used in this post are, understandably, not mine. Thank you Pexels for providing them.)
10. Ecuador
What to say about this marvelous country? It’s set upon the Equator (imagine that, who knew!), it’s Spanish-speaking and it recognizes nature’s rights! In fact, how bad of a time can you have in a country where the theory of evolution has been proven? Walking around the Andes, as well as Galapagos islands? Priceless! Many different tours can be found worldwide, leading all the way to this beautiful country. Personally, I have to give a shout-out to Peru here as well, since it’s been on my list for quite some time. The moment I’m ready to walk around the Andes and the Galapagos will be the same journey I’ll have around Peru.

9. Morocco
Chefchaouen. If you’ve heard this name before, you’ll instantly know why Morocco is so high on my list. Everybody knows about Santorini, and the white houses with blue rooftops. But how many of you know about a completely blue city? You’re welcome.
On the other hand, there are Rabat and Casablanca (yes, the one from the movie), as well as other big cities. But I’m not here to list out the cities of any country. I’m here to talk about the experience that can be felt in this marvelous country. We know that Aladdin is from the Arabian Peninsula, but somehow, the marketplaces from the cartoon remind me of the pictures of their Moroccan counterparts. Other than that, they produce the best mint in the world – if you don’t believe me, try any tea that claims to be “Moroccan mint”. It caresses your taste buds in a completely different and otherworldly way.
But the atmosphere of the famous markets, all the wonders you can see being sold there, the endless desert wherever you look, yet ocean-oriented, with a quick trip to three archipelagos to the West. It has everything I love!

8. Macao
Let me disillusion you first, I’m no gambler. In fact, I went to a casino twice in my life, both times to keep my friend company, while he was gambling (and losing money, but okay, I didn’t tag along to judge). But would I want to go to the biggest Las Vegas in the world? Of course, what kind of an obsolete question is that!
I truly want to believe Macao is more than just a huge gambling arena for people with a surplus of time and money. There are tall buildings, in the style of Eastern Asia, to be seen up close. The area shares a border with China, and it’s very near to Hong Kong (hello again!), right across the bay. So, you know you’ll be in for some great international atmosphere and exquisite food.
Apart from Portuguese colonial influence, which would be awesome to feel at the furthest ends of Asia, I’m in for the world’s highest commercial bungee jump, too! Who wants to come with?

7. South (and North) Korea
When I was a teenager, I dreamed of studying in Japan, and also live there for some time. The Fukushima nuclear disaster blew up that dream for me. Not only am I now over it, but Japan is not even in the top 30 of my countries waiting to be visited any longer. After living in China for a year, this dream was completely dispersed. Now, the country in the neighborhood that I want to see is South Korea!
To be utterly honest and fair, I didn’t know much about Japan as a teenager. I only knew it was a country living in the future, the home of manga and anime arts, and a place with crazy inflation rates. Nowadays, this vision of Japan is give-or-take what I feel about South Korea. And sure, although I’d love to visit Seoul (not up for playing the Squid game, though), there’s a city I’d much rather spend time in – Busan.
While in South Korea, how would I choose not to go on a tour of North Korea? After all, it is the safest imaginable tour in the world! Although a bit limiting, I find it to be more than worth the effort. Whenever I decide to take this trip, I know it is going to be more than just the expected, and I’m expecting a lot!

6. Kazakhstan and Mongolia
I could absolutely not choose one out of these two. To me, they are like two peas in a pod. In fact, I believe that visiting one and not the other would truly give us a sense of lacking – of knowing that there is something more right across the border.
The capital of Kazakhstan (whatever its current name is today) is probably one of the most marvelous and futuristic cities on Earth. One of my friends was there on multiple occasions, and my reaction to the pictures was “TAKE ME ALONG NEXT TIME”. There will be a lot of Russian influence, as this country has proclaimed independence from the USSR as late as in 1991. In fact, Russian is still the official language of Kazakhstan. Believe it or not, although situated in the heart of Asia, the country belongs to both Asia and Europe!
The Kazakh neighbor from across the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, is a country on my list, as well. However, the steppes prevailed in this constellation, losing the spot in the top 10 for Azerbaijan.
Mongolia. Do you remember that it once used to be the largest empire on Earth? Genghis Khan used to control most of today’s China, Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkey, Eastern Europe, as well as countless territories in between and around. Nowadays, Mongolia is known solely for its steppes, horses, and a nomadic way of living. Can’t wait to dive deep into the exploration of the area, and uncover what ideal ancestors of digital nomads were experiencing as they went along moving.

5. French Polynesia
This is most probably going to be the country, where I will decide to finally move to and settle for good. Why, you ask? Well, that’s easy – atolls, mountains, shallow water, deep ocean, palm trees, volcanoes, nature, nature, NATURE! Plus, water everywhere. Who wouldn’t want to be here? And even better – why?
Debatably, we can talk about things to do in the French Polynesia. In fact, I am planning for a trip around all of Oceania one day. It will most likely not take more than a month or two, to visit this whole continent (naturally, excluding Australia and New Zealand). And I’ll see everything there is to see and live through everything there is to experience.
But, long story short? Would I ever give up on everything I ever put effort into, to go and live in the middle of the ocean? WHEN CAN I START?!

4. Philippines
Recently, I opened a map, seeing that someone I know was at an unknown island (to me). I zoomed out and out, who knows how many times. There were islands, and islands, and only islands. Thousands, at the very least! And, of course, an endless body of water surrounding them. Finally, after zooming out over five times, I saw it was relatively close to the biggest of the Philippine islands.
Philippines have the most wonderous nature on Earth. On the other hand, unfortunately, they are struck by various natural disasters, usually multiple times per year. The strikes are so forceful, that sometimes it takes effort to literally rebuild all of infrastructure. Such a huge shame, especially when you add into the equation the kindheartedness of the citizens of these islands. Some of my best friends live in the Philippines, and I cannot wait for the day to come to visit them!
Hint – if you want nice nature and no disasters, you may want to opt for Guam. But under no circumstances should anyone ever skip the Philippines, for visiting them will be worth each and every bit of the effort.

3. South African Republic
My favorite city in the world (not visited yet) is Cape Town. In fact, I am so strongly biased towards it, I often say I want to travel to SAR only to be in this very city. Again, it falls under the category of where worlds clash. Let’s try to see through the relatively recent cultural conflicts, and look at nature alone. They have the mountains, hills, a cape, the warm sea, and the water for as long as the eyes can observe. You can have summer and winter literally on the territory of the same city, at the same time. And a huge plus from my side – it’s in the Southern Hemisphere!
My dream is to sit atop the hill in Cape Town, and look directly into the water, for hours. This is an experience I cannot wait for. I can only bet it will be as mind-opening as sleeping in the desert of Jordan!

2. Australia
I love this country and feel a very strong connection to it, although I only know five people who have stepped onto the continent. In fact, I know everything about it – which cities are good to settle in, which ones may not be such good options, where the climate is more European-like, where it’s wetter and where it’s the most stable. I even know everything about the scary animals of the continent: magpies (God prevent, crows on steroids), gigantic insects of all sorts, terror birds’ descendants, snakes in the toilet, flies that invoke an allergy to meat (GOODNESS, DELIVER US FROM THIS EVIL!).
But why should that be so scary? Did we forget about the utterly cute marsupials (kangaroos excluded, they are terrifying)? Why not list out the sleepy koalas, the cute wombats, the odd-looking platypus, the even odder-looking echidnas, dingoes, Tasmanian devils, and the cutest of them all – QUOKKAS! I can’t wait for the day when I will upload the post of the splendid animals of Australia!
Anyway, a country that has a limited selection of cities (or inhabited places, in general) to go around. On the other hand, it will be completely normal to ride your jet-ski to the town, blazing through the local canals. Others will look like the heart of Europe. Some will make you feel you’re at the physical end of the world. So many unique experiences to pick from!

1. Singapore
And it had to end with this – my absolute favorite. The only city that was built into the closest possible thing to a Heaven on Earth! Did you know that Singapore was erected based on the principles of feng-shui? No wonder so much positive energy flows through here! Is it a state, is it a city, is it something else? It’s a state of mind! It’s like New York, just for the East.
By far the most unique place on our planet, filled with attractions literally all around. Changi Airport, Universal Studios, Singapore Zoo & Night Safari, parks, islands and country clubs everywhere, Marina, Merlion, golf courses, you name it! The only thing it’s missing is Disneyland, though…

In the end, just wait and look forward to my individual posts from each of these countries. I will have enormous amounts of fun, but I wish this post inspires you to do the same. Spread the love, and feel the good experience everywhere!
