How I make the world a better place in 2024

Kindness can become its own motive. We are made kind by being kind.

#travelblogger #advice #world #beingnice #betterment

Do you know what keeps me going every time I travel? The world itself! Knowing that there are other marvelous places, waiting to be seen with my own eyes. And then, when I go to a new place, guess what, I love seeing it clean and nice, with happy, shiny people, sharing positive energy at every step. Even if the weather is awful (remember my 8-day adventure in the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Slovakia!), it’s amazing to see how everyone can still live a happy life and share nice sentiments with the rest of the world, even if it’s just a random pedestrian’s smile.

Still, no matter how positive one is, they are simply bound to bump into rude, disrespectful people, who cherish no good for themselves or the environment. For whichever reason, people are simply like that. (I personally blame the politicians, gambling and reality TV, but again, not an expert in sociology, just sharing an honest opinion.) Yet still, no one should ever allow that kind of behavior to ruin their day. And the least each of us can do is simply be nice. I’ll share with you several ways I practice, to be nice to the rest of the world and emit positive energy. The people in my vicinity say it’s contagious, so let’s believe them. If you decide to follow my lead, here are some things you can do to make the world a better place – not only in 2024, but forever.

Don’t litter!

Do you have pockets? Or a bag, or any kind of container? And you have a piece of garbage in your hands, such a candy wrapper, or an empty bottle? I don’t want to say the majority, but definitely an exorbitantly high volume of people just tosses garbage into nature, without even thinking about it. Let’s just all be kind enough to put it into our pocket or container, and toss it out into a garbage can at a later point. It’s not difficult at all. In fact, it’s super easy. And it contributes to our ecosystem a lot!

B+ (Be positive!)

Sure, we all have days when it’s just raining cats and dogs inside our heads. Or outside. And we cannot smile to everything and everyone that crosses our path. But we can also choose to not look daggers at accidental passers-by. Negative energy transfers very quickly and easily, and is contagious – just like positive energy. If you can’t smile at random strangers, just keep a poker face on. Better to not transfer any energy, than to transfer negative one.

Don’t make noise in public

This should go without saying, but it’s unbearable how many people don’t do this. Were you aware of the fact that noise and strong lights are considered pollutants? Well, now you are. There is no need to scream around in public (or in private). But this goes for any kind of noise making. What about those people who play loud music, or even worse, play reality TV on their phones, in public transport or open squares, on top of their speakers. If you have a need to play this – God gave you headphones, please simply put them on.

Shanghai Old Town

Read

I’m not talking about newspapers, tabloids, conspiracy theory journals, random alien sighting “news” or that kind of trash. I’m talking about books. Life-inspiring blogs. Stories of happiness. And not the ones “written” by singers, TV show hosts or models. I’m talking about books (and other sources of written word) with value. Whether you prefer classical or modern literature, or perhaps just a good popular psychology edition, a cartoon – whatever rocks your boat. You also do not need to do this in public (although it beats making noise any day of the week), you can practice it while alone. For whichever magical reason, people who read also tend to be better human beings and more polite. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Travel

There’s nothing to explain here – travelling opens up the closed up pores in everyone’s soul. Just notice how much more interesting and inspiring the people who travel are, compared to anyone else on the planet. Have you noticed how the most interesting person in the room is always the one who travels a lot? Again, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Don’t talk about politics or things you see on TV

Life happens outside of television. This also means outside of politics. It’s one thing to strongly condemn politicians with openly evil agendas, but it’s a completely different thing to argue with friends about which politician/reality TV show contestant is better and why. Some things are better kept for oneself.

Stop staring at your phone

And remember – this comes from an Apple user. The nature is around you, not inside of your phone. Also, especially when you’re trying to spend quality time with people you like – they are next to you, not inside your screen. Interact as a healthy, functional human being, this will make everyone feel better. Also, in over 99,99% cases, whatever news comes in through your phone is not even slightly as important as exchanging positive energy with good people around you.

Again, there’s no need to go into the opposite extreme (like some of us here), to turn off your internet connection and network and completely ignore the existence of your phone while with somebody. Another person may actually need you for an existing urgency. Find balance here, but it is definitely on the side where the phone is off – seek it out here.

Shanghai Monument

Don’t be a jinx!

Have you noticed, for example, people at cash registers, who wait in line for their change of 1 cent? And they can wait for 10 minutes. Do you think anyone on this planet is that poor? And what about those people who cut the lines “just to ask something” (usually something that is written and highlighted in plain sight). Do you think anyone is that ignorant? I personally believe this is their traits of wanting to be a jinx, nothing more. There’s one simple cure – don’t be like that. It costs you 0 anything to not be like that. Just don’t.

Nice park

Don’t be passive aggressive

You know what some of us have no tolerance for? Conversations of this sort.

  • Hey, do you like the food.
  • Yes… (chews slowly and rolls their eyes)
  • Are you sure? Is it really nice for you, or are you just trying to appease me?
  • All good… (swallowing food with disgust)

Do you ever go on a date, and the other person does this? Do you go on a second date with them? I sure don’t. We’re adults. If you’re afraid to speak your mind out loud, the problem cannot be with the person you’re (not) talking to. You’re older than 3 – act accordingly.

Don’t ask stupid questions.

I come from a background that states “there are no stupid questions”. Haha, good one! Not only are there stupid questions, but people really aren’t afraid to ask them. In fact, constantly repeating that there are no stupid questions actually empowers people to ask stupid questions. So, please stop repeating this, to begin with!

When people ask you things like “when are you getting married”, “when are you having children”, “are you planning to finish that college already”, “when are you landing your first/next job”, “why don’t you save up more so you can follow me to a 10-day Hawaii splurge”, “why don’t you invest in stocks/crypto/a house” – can we really say they aren’t asking us dumb questions? My best answer to this sort of nosiness used to be “when the right time comes”, “all in good time”, or anything along those lines. However, the people who have the brain capacity to ask this kind of questions, also have no brain capacity whatsoever to understand one of these correct answers.

It’s up to you how you will respond. But how you can make the world a better place – simply don’t ask questions that are none of your business.

Shanghai Pearl Tower

Often times, I get asked about how I make the world a better place. What was just shared with you are not life-or-death principles. There are still gray zones, depending on the circumstances. However, if we all stick to these just in regular everyday situations, we really can make the world better. A small contribution from 8B people on the planet will really go a great way into making this Earth an amazing place for living creatures – what it is originally intended to be. Stick to your own principles, feel free to add or change whatever you read, but do stick to them. No one will be saving us, unless we decide to do so ourselves. There’s no planet B, there’s no civilization B, and there’s no Captain Eco – the responsibility for the world’s wellbeing is in our own hands. And we must use this superpower with gratitude and humility.
